The laurel of the kitchen and of classical wreaths, native to this region and equally happy clipped into a formal shape or left as a large informal shrub. Aromatic, evergreen, and genuinely useful.

Flower colour: Pale yellow-green
How to care: Full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established, though container plants need regular water. Clips extremely well, so it suits cones, standards, and hedges; trim in late spring and again in late summer, using secateurs rather than shears to avoid cutting through the large leaves. Harvest leaves at any time, and dry them for stronger flavour.
