The most cold-hardy palm in this catalogue, with a slim fibre-covered trunk and stiff fan leaves. This is the palm that will survive a Lebanese mountain winter where nothing else with fronds would.

How to care: Sun or partial shade in well-drained soil kept reasonably moist; it prefers cooler conditions than most palms and can scorch in intense dry heat. Shelter from strong wind, which tatters the leaves. Water regularly rather than treating it as a drought plant. Remove spent fronds close to the trunk, leaving the fibrous covering intact.
