The true date palm, slimmer and more upright than its Canary Island relative, and productive in hot dry positions. Suckers freely at the base, which can be removed for a single clean trunk or left for a clumped grove effect.

Fruiting and harvest: August to October in hot enough summers
How to care: Full sun, heat, and sharply drained soil; exceptionally drought and salt tolerant once rooted. Water deeply but infrequently. Remove basal suckers annually unless you want a multi-stemmed clump. Fruiting requires a male palm nearby and genuinely hot summers, so in much of Lebanon it is grown as an ornamental. Monitor closely for red palm weevil.
