Ophiopogon japonicus

Not a true grass but a dense evergreen tuft that spreads slowly into an unbroken dark green carpet. The classic solution for shaded ground where lawn refuses to grow, and for planting between stepping stones.

Flower colour: Pale lilac / white
How to care: Partial to full shade in well-drained soil kept moderately moist. Tolerates deep shade and root competition under trees better than almost anything else. Water regularly while establishing, then moderately. Needs no mowing; simply shear off tired foliage in early spring before new growth appears. Divide congested clumps in spring to spread it further.
