Blue Fescue

Neat, compact hemispheres of intense steel-blue foliage, useful as a repeated accent in gravel planting or along the front of a bed. Small enough to work in a container or a narrow border.

Blooming season: Late spring to summer
Flower colour: Buff seed heads
How to care: Full sun and sharply drained, poor soil. Drought tolerant and short-lived in rich or wet conditions. Comb out dead material with your fingers in spring rather than shearing hard, which spoils the rounded shape. Divide and replant every two or three years, since clumps die out in the centre with age. Avoid heavy feeding and avoid mulching over the crown.
