Lavender-blue flower spikes through the hottest weeks of summer, over aromatic grey-green foliage. Native to the Mediterranean, entirely drought proof once rooted, and heavily worked by bees.

How to care: Full sun and sharply drained soil, tolerating poor stony ground. Water through the first summer only; established plants need essentially no irrigation. Flowers on new wood, so prune hard in late winter, cutting back to a low framework to keep it dense and flowering heavily. Left unpruned it becomes an open, sprawling large shrub, which is also a legitimate look.
