Flowering Shrubs

Japanese Camellia

Camellia japonica

كاميليا

Formal, almost artificial-looking flowers in the depths of winter, against glossy evergreen foliage that looks good in every other month. The classic shade shrub for a cool, sheltered courtyard.

Blooming season
Winter to spring
Flower colour
Red, pink, white or variegated
How to care
Partial shade with shelter from morning sun, which scorches frosted buds, in acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Like gardenia it dislikes the alkaline soils common here, so container growing in ericaceous compost is often the practical answer. Keep moisture consistent, particularly in late summer when next year's buds form. Prune lightly straight after flowering. Bud drop usually means the plant dried out the previous summer.

Available in small, medium. Exact pot size and plant height are confirmed when we reply to your order.
