Flowering Shrubs
Bigleaf Hydrangea
Hydrangea macrophylla
هدرانجيا
Huge mophead flowers that fade slowly through the season, and the only common shrub whose colour you can change: acidic soil produces blue, alkaline soil produces pink. A mountain plant in Lebanon rather than a coastal one.
- Blooming season
- Late spring to summer
- Flower colour
- Blue, pink, purple or white
- How to care
- Partial shade, especially from afternoon sun, in rich soil kept consistently moist; this is not a drought-tolerant plant and it wilts dramatically when dry. Mulch generously. For blue flowers use ericaceous compost and an aluminium sulphate treatment, as most Lebanese soils are limey and will push it pink. Prune just above the fat buds in early spring, removing only spent heads and dead wood, since next year's flowers are already formed.
Available in small, medium. Exact pot size and plant height are confirmed when we reply to your order.
