Cucumber

Cucumis sativus

Prolific to the point of comedy once it gets going. A few plants trained up a support will keep a household supplied all summer, and growing them vertically saves ground space while keeping the fruit straight and clean.

How to care
Cucumbers want warmth, rich soil, and steady water, and they resent cold nights, so plant out only once the soil has warmed. Train up netting or canes to keep fruit off the ground and improve airflow, which is the best defence against mildew. Water at the base rather than over the leaves, and never let the plant dry out or the fruit turns bitter. Pick constantly: every cucumber left to mature on the plant tells it to stop producing.

Available in seedling tray, small. Exact pot size and plant height are confirmed when we reply to your order.

Planting something larger?

If you are planning a full garden, an orchard, or a landscape project, we can design and install it rather than supply it plant by plant.
