Fruit Trees
Persimmon
Diospyros kaki
كاكي
Grown for two things: fruit that hangs like lanterns after the leaves drop, and autumn colour that few other trees here can match. Astringent varieties need to go fully soft before they are edible, which catches people out.

- How to care
- Full sun in deep, well-drained soil. Water consistently through summer, since drought stress causes heavy fruit drop. Feed lightly, as too much nitrogen encourages leaf over fruit. Prune in winter while dormant, keeping a strong framework, because the wood is brittle and heavy crops snap branches. Young trees often drop their entire first crop, which is normal and corrects itself with maturity.
