Easy-peeling, intensely fragrant, and the first citrus most Lebanese children learn to pick themselves. Naturally smaller than an orange tree, which makes it the citrus to choose for a courtyard or a large terrace pot.

Fruiting and harvest: November to February
How to care: Full sun, free-draining soil, and shelter from cold wind. Water deeply and consistently through the fruiting swell, easing off in winter. Feed with citrus fertiliser in spring and again in midsummer. Thin heavy fruit sets on young trees so branches are not pulled out of shape. Prune lightly after harvest, removing suckers from below the graft union as they appear.
