How to care

Full sun and free draining soil are the only real requirements, and olives strongly prefer poor stony ground to rich soil. Water deeply every two to three weeks through the first two summers, then only in prolonged drought. Prune in late winter to open the centre and let light reach the inner branches, which is where next season's fruit forms. Avoid heavy feeding, since it produces soft growth at the expense of fruit.
