Thick, glossy, almost plastic-looking evergreen leaves, often variegated in gold or cream. A workhorse hedging shrub that tolerates coastal exposure, pollution, and hard clipping without complaint.

Flower colour: Greenish white
How to care: Full sun to partial shade in any well-drained soil; variegated forms need more light to hold their markings. Drought tolerant once established and highly salt tolerant. Clip two or three times through the growing season for a formal hedge. Powdery mildew can appear in crowded, still conditions, so allow airflow and avoid overhead watering. Remove any all-green shoots on variegated plants.
