Stone Pine
Pinus pinea
الصنوبر المثمر
The umbrella pine of the Lebanese coast, unmistakable in silhouette and the source of the pine nuts used across the region's cooking. Young trees are rounded and bushy, and the flat-topped canopy only develops with real age.

- How to care
- Full sun and free-draining soil, tolerating sand, stone, and salt air. Water through the first summers, then leave it; mature trees are fully drought tolerant. Allow substantial space for the eventual spread. As it matures, remove lower branches gradually to reveal the trunk and develop the classic umbrella form. Cones take three years to ripen, so patience is part of the deal.
