The most refined spruce in the group, with very short, dense, glossy dark needles and a narrow elegant outline. Slower and better mannered than Norway spruce, and more tolerant of heat.

Flower colour: Non-showy
How to care: Full sun to light shade in well-drained soil. Handles heat and drier conditions better than most spruces once established, though it still wants consistent moisture while young. Naturally narrow, so it suits a smaller garden than its relatives. Prune only for damage. Red new cones in spring are a feature and should not be removed.
