Compact enough for a real garden rather than an estate, and grown above all for the upright violet-purple cones it carries even on young plants. Needles show bright silver undersides that catch the light as they move.

How to care: Full sun to light shade in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Dislikes hot dry exposure and limey ground, so container growing with ericaceous compost is a reliable option in much of Lebanon. Water consistently and mulch to keep roots cool. Slow growing and naturally neat, needing no shaping. Remove only damaged branches.
