Vigorous, generous, and almost impossible to kill. Trained along a wire fence a blackberry doubles as a boundary hedge that happens to produce fruit by the bowlful in late summer. Thornless forms are available for beds near paths and seating.

How to care

Plant in sun or partial shade in soil that holds some moisture, and give it wires or a fence to be tied into. The essential job is knowing which canes to cut: blackberries fruit on last year's growth, so after harvest remove the canes that just fruited at ground level and tie in this year's new canes for next season. Water through dry spells while fruit is swelling, and mulch each spring to feed and suppress weeds.
